Plot

Born and bred in the historic city of Nagasaki, Japan, Yuuichi Okano is an emblem of the baby boomer generation. With his distinctive bald head resembling a 'pecoross', a small onion, he paints a memorable character. His mother, the endearing Mitsue, has been grappling with dementia, a condition that began shadowing her life soon after her husband, Satoru, passed away a decade ago. Crafted with a delicate blend of humor and melancholy, the film unveils their day-to-day existence, a poignant voyage through the trials of life and the strength of familial bonds. It mirrors the increasingly serious social crises in Japan - the swift advancement of an aging population, and the escalating challenges of nursing care and dementia. At the helm is Azuma Morisaki, an octogenarian film director who holds the distinction of being the oldest active filmmaker in Japan. Despite tackling grave issues, Morisaki presents a light and heartening narrative, imbuing the film with warmth that resonates beyond its frames. 'Pecoross' Mother and Her Days' is a tender exploration of life's twilight, a testament to resilience amid adversity, and a tribute to the undying spirit of love and care.
