Plot

In the vibrant world of theatre, Ganpat "Appa" Belwalkar (Nana Patekar) was the reigning king. His performances, particularly in plays inspired by Shakespeare, earned him boundless fame and fortune. However, as the curtains fall on his career, he becomes the tragic embodiment of a revered artist falling prey to the indifference of old age and the bitter sting of alienation. Having decided to embrace the tranquility of retirement, Belwalkar seeks solace in the company of his loyal friend Rambhau and his loving wife Kaveri. Hoping to live a serene life, he transfers his assets to his children – a decision that unwittingly triggers a sequence of disheartening events. As the respect he once commanded dissipates, he soon finds himself at the mercy of harsh familial circumstances. Shunned by his own kin, Ganpat and Kaveri leave their home, seeking refuge in their daughter Vidya's home. Yet, there, they're met with further disdain. On a tempestuous night, they find themselves homeless and lost, seeking shelter wherever the cold world allows. As Kaveri breathes her last, the once-celebrated Natsamrat finds himself living on the unforgiving streets, where he is cared for by the city's neglected denizens. Natsamrat weaves a poignant tale of an actor's fall from grace, echoing the tragic fate of Lear. It is an immersive exploration of the price of fame, the ravages of time, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
