Plot

Nestled in the heart of Manhattan's opulent Park Avenue, we are ushered into a world of love, dreams, and politics, through the eyes of Djuna "D.J." Berlin, our charming narrator. D.J. paints a vibrant portrait of her unique, ultra-liberal household, an intriguing tapestry of relations born from the marriage of her socially conscious mother, Steffi, and Bob Dandridge, a distinguished lawyer. The household is a kaleidoscope of characters, each with their own tale to tell. Amidst them, a discordant note is struck by Scott Dandridge, Bob's son from a previous marriage, who bucks the family's liberal trend with his ultra-conservative ideologies. Meanwhile, Steffi and Bob's daughters, Lane and Laura, are inseparable, sparking potential trouble as they both find themselves drawn to the same neighborhood boy. Bob's other child from his first marriage, Skylar, is deeply in love with Holden Spence, a diligent employee at Bob's firm. Holden, lacking the artistry of romance, seeks D.J.'s counsel to craft the perfect marriage proposal for Skylar. Despite her own romantic skepticism, D.J. steps in to orchestrate a memorable proposition. But Skylar, inexperienced in matters of the heart, might be led astray from her predictable love, especially under the influence of Steffi's philanthropic endeavours. On the other side of the Atlantic, Joe Berlin, Steffi's first husband and D.J's "real" father, is a Paris-based writer wrestling with his own romantic misadventures. After another failed relationship, Joe finds a potential match in Von, a married woman. With a little manipulation from D.J., Von begins to see Joe as her dream man. But illusions are fragile, and happiness built on them even more so. As Steffi navigates through her philanthropic pursuits, she inadvertently disrupts Skylar and Holden's love story by introducing Skylar to ex-con Charles Ferry. The stories intertwine, unravel, and fold back onto themselves, offering a captivating exploration of love, dreams, and the chaos that is family life.
