Paradise Lost (1999)

In the lush, untamed expanse of the Amazonian rainforest, arrogant land mogul Mike Stark engages the aid of scientist Hofstadter to create a defoliant that will expedite his ambitious business venture. The project, however, is rooted in a land shrouded in mystery and primal fear; a land recently acquired by Stark, where the locals whisper of strange happenings and unseen predators. The jungle, once a haven of biodiversity, has become a hunting ground where Stark's men are found gruesomely torn apart. The villagers speak in hushed tones of an entity far more menacing than any beast of the wild. Intrigued yet anxious, Hofstadter embarks on a journey to the heart of the rainforest, only to be swept up in an eerie ritual that makes him question the very fabric of his understanding.
