Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)

In the near future, a meteorite crash lands on Earth and exposes humanity to their first alien contact. Unfortunately, the creatures appear to be dangerous, but researchers have worryingly little information about their motives, intent, or ideology. But whether they're malicious or not, they're spreading a sickness that could potentially destroy the world. Little of civilization still remains, but those that do live fight to retain what's left and hopefully turn back the tide of destruction. And for Dr. Aki Ross, the stakes are personal. She herself has been infected, and that leaves her with little time to discover a cure before she's subsumed.
