Mysterious Island (1961)

In the heart of the American Civil War, the year is 1865, and the city of Richmond, Virginia is under siege. Amidst the chaos, a band of Union soldier POWs, including the stoic Captain Harding, resourceful Neb, and young Herbert, daringly escape their captors. Their unlikely companions on this daring escape are two Confederate prisoners - the hardy Sergeant Pencroft and savvy journalist Spilett. Their vessel of escape is a lone balloon, driven into the tempestuous eye of a hurricane, propelling them far from the battlegrounds of Virginia. The storm's fury carries them across continents, dropping them in the middle of the South Pacific, on a mysterious island nestled near New Zealand.
