2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

At the dawn of time, a mysterious slab from outer space lands on earth. Starving apes touch the slab and gain increased intelligence, which helps them survive. Thousands of years later, astronauts discover a second slab on the surface of the moon. They intend to solve its mystery, but the discovery affects the space station's all-powerful computer, HAL. HAL then turns on the humans, threatening their survival.
