Miracle at St. Anna (2008)

In the chilling autumn of 1944, the heart of World War II, a quartet of African-American soldiers find themselves stranded behind enemy lines, ensnared in the iron jaws of the German opposition. They seek sanctuary in a quaint Italian hamlet, a ghost town temporarily abandoned by the Nazis. They are not alone, though; their only company, a young and traumatized boy, feverish and scarred by war. His only solace is his unseen companion, Arturo, who he speaks to with an eerie conviction. The discovery of a missing Italian marble head, a relic from the war, in his apartment, triggers a cascade of memories. His tale weaves the story of the four soldiers, the shell-shocked boy, a village beauty, the traitor, and a local legend together. The narrative threads all lead back to a horrific massacre and the miracle at St. Anna, giving context to the postal worker's torment. The past and the present are inextricably linked, and the mystery of the miracle waits to be unraveled.
