In the shadowy world of theft, Govindan (Manivannan) raises his two sons, Aadhi (Pasupathy) and Mathi ('Chiyaan' Vikram). With the passage of time, the brothers choose to abandon their life of crime, embracing an honest, laborious existence alongside their father. Their journey takes them to a neighbouring village, where they encounter Chidambaram (Vijaya Kumar), an indebted retired agricultural officer under the crushing weight of Kalingarayar (Murali), the village's ruthless landlord.
When Mathi steps forward to assist Chidambaram, he crosses paths with Seetha Lakshmi (Asin), the landlord's strong-willed daughter who is tasked with collecting her father's dues. A hidden affection blossoms within Seetha for Mathi, yet she conceals it, wary of her father's volcanic temper. In a daring act of rebellion, Mathi forcefully places the ceremonial mangalsutram around Seetha's neck, symbolizing their marriage.
Upon discovering his daughter's clandestine love for Mathi, Kalingarayar softens, arranging a grand re-marriage for the unlikely couple. However, as the wedding preparations gain momentum, Seetha's fortune-seeking maternal uncle, Manicka Vel (Biju Menon), arrives in town with a sinister plot to halt the wedding and claim Seetha and her family's wealth for himself. The unfolding drama promises a riveting tale of love, valor, and family ties tested by greed.
