Plot
The classmates of Chisa Yomoda are still grieving her a week after her suicide, but some of them are receiving disturbing emails that claim to come from Chisa herself. She claims that she killed herself because she ascended beyond her body to exist in another realm known as The Wired. Shy, awkward, and technology-adverse student Lain Iwakura becomes curious about these claims, and that transforms into obsession when she manages to actually journey to this virtual world. Now Lain is uncertain about her sanity even as she finds herself being hunted by mysterious men in black and haunted by technological visions.
