Plot

Weary of the European high society's relentless pursuit of pleasure, Prince Leo, the last descendant of a dethroned continental monarchy, seeks solace in his father's London townhouse. Accompanying him are his ambitious fiancée, Margaret, and Laszlo, an ardent revolutionary fervently concocting a scheme to restore Leo to his ancestral throne. Upon his arrival, Leo is taken aback to find his once aristocratic neighborhood transformed into a teeming ghetto, primarily home to impoverished blacks on the verge of desolation. The Mardi family, residing next door, particularly draws his attention, especially their striking daughter, Salambo, and her enigmatic boyfriend, Roscoe. In the guise of bird-watching, Leo observes his neighbors, his gaze as detached and clinical as a scientist scrutinizing insects under a microscope. But as Salambo, in her bid to keep her family afloat, is forced into prostitution, Leo finds himself on the precipice of a moral dilemma that could irrevocably alter his future. Despite Margaret's pleas and Laszlo nearing the realization of the counterrevolution, Leo finds himself torn between his birthright and the captivating life of the London girl. This social satire weaves a compelling tale of a displaced monarch whose political ambitions become secondary, replaced by an unexpected fascination with the raw struggle of those living on society's fringes. Leo the Last stands as a poignant exploration of power, privilege, and the unexpected paths the human heart can take.
