Plot

In the shadows of Brooklyn's towering housing projects, Langston Bellows (Gbenga Akinnagbe), a man grappling with mental disability, finds himself alone and unprotected when his brother mysteriously vanishes. Under the harsh dominion of his abrasive mother (Alfre Woodard), Langston is forced to seize control of his destiny. His quest: to find a celebrity doctor, a glossy magazine columnist renowned for endorsing dubious prescription drug cocktails. Longing to achieve "mental excellence," Langston dreams of a future where he can embrace independence in his own apartment, possibly sharing his life with a girlfriend. But is she just a phantom born from his hopeful imagination? As he plunges into the murky depths of the pharmaceutical world, his search for the elusive doctor unearths unsettling revelations. Driven by a yearning for emancipation from his mother, his neighborhood, and his fragmented psyche, Langston finds himself in a world where reality is as slippery as a greased eel. His journey becomes a struggle for self-identity in an ever-changing landscape where people are seldom what they appear to be.
