Kadosh (1999)

As the year 2000 dawns in Jerusalem's Orthodox Mea Shearim district, women toil, maintain homes, and bear offspring, allowing the men to immerse themselves in the profound depths of the Torah and Talmud. Amidst this austere setting, Rivka's passionate marriage to Meir brims with happiness, yet is tarnished by their childless plight. Meir's father, a stern rabbi presiding over the yeshiva, insists on Meir severing ties with Rivka, labeling her barrenness as an affront to womanhood. In the same puritanical realm, Rivka's sister Malka cherishes a clandestine love for Yakov, a Jew ostracized by the yeshiva for his secular tendencies. However, the iron-willed rabbi orchestrates Malka's marriage to Yossef, a man whose fervor in religious practices borders on the bizarre. Trapped in this domineering world, the sisters are left grappling with their heart's yearnings. Will they find a way to reconcile their desires within this rigid patriarchal framework, or will they be forced to explore unfathomable alternatives?
