Hitched for the Holidays (2012)

In the heart of the bustling holiday season in New York City, Julie Greene, a Jewish-American former actress turned empathetic theater critic, finds herself in a predicament. After a breakup last New Year's Eve, her well-meaning but meddlesome mother, Maxine, is on a mission to spare Julie from spending another holiday season alone, even if that means reviving old and failed relationships. Across town, Italian-American Rob Marino, an advertising art director with a penchant for freedom in both his work and love life, has just ended another short-lived romance, much to his family's despair. Rob's mother, Evie, is particularly perturbed by his commitment issues, while his grandmother, Theresa, yearns to see him happily married as her final wish. In a bid to pacify their families and avoid holiday loneliness, Julie and Rob cross paths when he answers her personal ad, setting a plan in motion. Both agree to masquerade as a couple throughout the holiday season, with Julie hoping to deter her mother's matchmaking efforts and Rob aiming to grant his grandmother's wish. Their plan, however, is not foolproof. They have to convincingly play their parts not only for their families but also for their friends, navigating through a series of complications that arise from their mixed Catholic and Jewish backgrounds. As the city twinkles with Christmas lights and Hanukkah approaches, they redouble their efforts to maintain the façade. Yet, beneath the charade, genuine feelings start to blossom. With their scheme designed to culminate in a staged breakup at the advent of the New Year, the growing affection between Julie and Rob threatens to derail their plan. The lie that initially brought them together may just be the obstacle that prevents them from finding a true happily-ever-after. Will their faux relationship withstand the holiday pressures and evolve into authentic love, or will the truth unravel their well-organized deception?
