Plot

In the shadow of 1989, the secluded Cuttyhunk Island became an unexpected crucible for a revolutionary leap in human evolution. A pioneering parasitic research project promised to amplify human strength, intelligence, and awareness. The initial scientific triumph quickly descended into terrifying chaos, as a horrific mishap decimated three-quarters of the island's population and forced Jamie Akerman to flee, her life marred by the loss of her mother in the outbreak. Now, after two decades, Jamie returns to her haunted past, accompanied by her boyfriend and stepbrother. Their objective is simple: sell the family property and escape the eerie island. However, the mysteries of Cuttyhunk refuse to stay buried. Under the oppressive rule of town leader Larkin, the island holds tightly onto its dark secrets, secrets that are inextricably tied to Jamie's unsettling past. As they dig deeper, they unearth a new, more menacing strain of the parasite that once brought the island to its knees. The nightmare is reborn, threatening to engulf the island and its inhabitants once again. Jamie finds herself trapped in a desperate battle for survival, evading the relentless pursuit of the local islanders who believe she has inherited a power far beyond her imagination. Jamie's return sparks a chilling struggle against time, science, and her own past, as the parasitic terror rises again, eager to claim Cuttyhunk Island and its unwilling denizens. The survival stakes are high, and the secrets Jamie uncovers could shatter her world, or perhaps save it. The plot of "Growth" (2010) is a thrilling exploration of human resilience in the face of unspeakable horror and the relentless pursuit of truth, no matter how disturbing it might be.
