Garden State (2004)

Andrew Largeman is a C-list actor, one who is heavily medicated by his doctor father as a result of his traumatic past and troubled upbringing. The movie opens with Largeman waking from a nightmare to discover that his paralyzed mother died after drowning in the bathtub. Largeman returns to his childhood home, flying from Calfironia to New Jersey, for the funeral. While there, Largeman reconnects with old friends, finds a new love, and finally works to slay the demons that have haunted him for decades.
