In the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, John Ingram and his wife Rae find themselves marooned on their sailboat, their world reduced to an endless horizon and a dead calm. The couple, seeking solace from a recent auto accident that left Rae recovering both physically and emotionally, finds their tranquil solitude abruptly shattered. The arrival of Hughie, the lone survivor of a doomed black schooner they chance upon, brings a chilling interruption to their aquatic isolation. Hughie's harrowing tale of survival rings false to the seasoned sailor John, prompting him to board the sinking schooner in search of the truth. As John uncovers a reality far darker than Hughie's recounted ordeal, the cunning castaway seizes the opportunity to commandeer the Ingram yacht, leaving Rae as his unwilling captive, and John stranded on the doomed ship.
