Empowered (2018)

In the heart of Madrid, 39-year-old Paz teeters precariously on the brink of a mental breakdown. Her life, a symphony of chaos, is woven with threads of humiliation, obsession, neglect, and deceit. Her daily grind at a marketing firm is marred by the constant degradation at the hands of her boss, Borja, a young, unqualified libertine, who also brings on Alicia, a celebrated Internet influencer, as Paz's supervisor, adding insult to injury. In the midst of this professional turmoil, Paz's personal life offers no comfort. Her best friend Vanessa, a gym teacher, is more obsessed with tracking her ex-boyfriend online than lending an empathetic ear. Her sister Bea, a fervent cat lover, thrusts her feline obsession onto Paz, burdening her with cat-sitting duties during her absences to attend cat-rights activism events. Peace eludes Paz even in her own home, thanks to upstairs neighbor Kiko, the perpetual party animal whose relentless revelry shatters the tranquility of her nights. Her relationship with Dante, an Argentinean artist and chronic layabout, is strained as he prioritizes his art above all, including their home and his own son Tolouse, Paz's difficult, ill-mannered stepson. Adding to this maelstrom of misfortunes is Gabriel, a coworker and Paz's former lover, who is preparing to wed Alejandra, a fiercely jealous and controlling woman, while simultaneously tempting Paz with rekindled affection. In a desperate attempt to find solace amid her spiraling life, Paz reaches out to Amil Narayan, a Hindi TV guru, who offers her a special potion intended to provide relief. However, in her desperation, she consumes the potion all at once, instead of in the small doses prescribed. This triggers an unforeseen side-effect, causing Paz to lose control over her thoughts and opinions, leading to a life-altering revelation. As Paz grapples with this newfound truth, her life takes an unexpected turn, ushering in an era of tumultuous change.
