Bullwhip (1958)

In the dusty confines of an Abilene, Kansas jail, Steve Dailey sits, the specter of the noose looming over him. His only hope lies in an unexpected offer from Judge Carr - freedom in exchange for a matrimonial alliance with the mysterious Cheyenne O'Malley. He accepts, unaware of the Judge's ulterior motives, and with the help of his ally, Podo, evades the Judge's deadly machinations, including the relentless assassin, "Slow" Karp. In a thrilling escape, Dailey embarks on a journey to unravel the identity of his enigmatic bride. His path, however, leads him to the grandeur of John Parnell's mansion. Parnell, a fur-trader like Cheyenne, reveals her to be a half-breed running a thriving fur-trading enterprise, a business she could only keep due to her father's will if she had a husband. Parnell proposes a partnership with Dailey, a scheme to control the lucrative business. Intrigued, Dailey acquiesces, only to face the stinging lash of Cheyenne's bull-whip when he attempts to assert his position. As Dailey grapples with the complexities of his new life, he remains the target of Karp, who now finds himself playing a treacherous game, hired by both Judge Carr to eliminate Dailey and Parnell to keep him alive. As the stakes rise, Dailey must maneuver through this precarious world, unwilling to become the pawn in their deadly game.
