Plot

In the year 1845, on the brink of The Great Hunger, we meet Colmán Sharkey, a stalwart Irish fisherman, a loving father and devoted husband. He opens his home to a stranger, Patsy, a war-weary veteran of the Napoleonic wars, at the earnest request of the local priest. Patsy's arrival coincides with the rise of 'the blight,' a ruinous plague that ravages Ireland's vital potato crop, leading to widespread death and displacement. As the once bountiful fields decay, Colmán, his brother, and Patsy make the desperate journey to plead with the English Landlord for a stay on the crippling rent increases. Colmán fears these demands will decimate his community. His pleas, however, fall on indifferent ears, and Patsy's reaction to this injustice sets Colmán on a harrowing path, teetering on the brink of survival and sanity. Just when all hope seems lost, Colmán's spirit is rekindled by a chance encounter with an abandoned young girl. However, as his strength is revived, the shadows of his past resurface, threatening to engulf him once more. Arracht paints a haunting picture of a man's fight for survival amidst the bleak backdrop of an unforgiving famine.
