Altar (2014)

In the shadowy hollows of Yorkshire's austere landscape, artist Alec Hamilton, his wife Meg, and their children, Penny and Harper, find themselves drawn into the haunting mystery of Radcliffe Hall. Engaged in the daunting task of restoring the once-majestic manor to its former Victorian splendour, the family finds themselves in a chillingly isolated world where nothing is as it seems. As work begins, eerie phenomena rapidly envelop the family. Meg, a consummate renovation expert, first loses her London team to an inexplicable accident, then a local crew too frightened by the house’s sinister aura to continue. A series of disquieting discoveries heightens the sense of dread. A secret attic room, a Rosicrucian mosaic, a sealed root cellar, and an unearthed satanic altar, where the house's original owner Radcliffe allegedly murdered his wife before succumbing to his own tragic demise, add to the spine-chilling atmosphere. Meg's scepticism gradually crumbles when she witnesses apparitions herself and senses a terrifying transformation in her husband, Alec, who mysteriously starts bleeding after cutting his hand. Young Penny, convinced she's seen a spectral woman in her mother's photographs, brings in psychic Nigel Lean, who confirms the omnipresent, malevolent spirit of Radcliffe. As the family grapples with the realisation that they might be restoring not just the house, but its long-dead occupants as well, a palpable threat grows. Alec, seemingly possessed by the ghost of Radcliffe, appears hell-bent on letting history repeat itself—with Meg as the intended victim. As the sun gives way to the unforgiving night, Meg resolves to protect her children and flee the cursed manor. However, she must first confront Alec and the house itself, as they are compelled to endure one more terrifying night under its ominous roof. The once grand Radcliffe Hall now becomes their prison, holding them captive in a chilling dance with the supernatural, where escape seems impossible.
