Plot

In the liminal spaces of Africa and Spain, three disparate tales converge in the riveting drama, Adú. On the edge of Africa, in the Spanish-governed city of Melilla, Civil Guard Mateo wrestles with a moral quagmire. His duty is to guard the barbed border that segregates Melilla from the tumult of Africa, and to thwart the desperate attempts of African immigrants to breach this line. One fateful night, when his partner Javi fatally strikes an immigrant named Tatu, Mateo becomes ensnared in a storm of guilt and resentment, torn between loyalty and truth. Simultaneously, thousands of kilometers from the chaotic border, in the serene wildlife sanctuary of Mbouma, Cameroon, another story unfolds. Gonzalo, a Spanish environmentalist, is haunted by the sight of a slain elephant, its ivory tusks stolen by relentless poachers. His task to combat poaching, however, is further complicated when he must also confront the arrival of his estranged daughter, Sandra, from Spain. Her life, a whirlwind of addiction and reckless abandon, threatens to fracture their already strained relationship. Meanwhile, a world away from Gonzalo's trials, young Alika and his little brother Adu are propelled into a perilous journey from their small town in Mbouma, forced to flee from the very poachers Gonzalo fights against. They hide as stowaways on a plane, their sights set on Spain, where they hope to reunite with their father. However, their journey takes a harrowing turn when Alika falls victim to the cruel elements, leaving Adu alone and lost in Mauritania. As Mateo grapples with his conscience under the scrutiny of Tatu's determined lawyer, Paloma, and Gonzalo attempts to pull Sandra from her self-destructive spiral, Adu finds an unlikely protector in Massar, a teenager who offers to guide him to Spain, selling himself for the necessary travel funds. Their destination: mount Gurugu, the makeshift camp on the outskirts of Melilla, where immigrants bide their time, waiting for the perfect moment to breach the border. Adú is a tapestry of intertwined narratives, each seemingly isolated yet inextricably bound by a shared theme. Unbeknownst to the key players, their destinies are on a collision course, and their lives will be irrevocably altered in the most unexpected ways.
