Plot

In the stylistic fusion of neo-noir and sots-art, "Zift" unfurls its narrative in the heart of a single, electrifying night. Moth, a man wrongfully convicted of murder and imprisoned on the eve of the Bulgarian communist coup of 1944, is suddenly freed on parole. As he steps into the bewildering new world of 60s totalitarian Sofia, he finds himself navigating a labyrinth of existential dread and uncertainty. As the iron gates of the prison close behind him, Moth's quest for survival ignites a thrilling chase against time. In a desperate bid to outwit the relentless bloodhounds of the communist state, he plunges into the very bowels of a decaying city, its gloomy streets pulsating with the sinister heartbeat of totalitarian rule. From the eerie bathhouse to the desolate canal, from the somber hospital to the imposing cathedral, and through the smoky haze of bars to the final resting place in the graveyard, Moth's journey paints a chilling portrait of a diabolical city. In his frantic flight, a bizarre parade of asphalt jungle denizens cross his path - shadowy agents, indifferent medics, drunken barflies, social outcasts, and the dreaded gravediggers. As Moth teeters on the precipice of his ultimate demise, the plot thickens, propelled by a cascade of unexpected twists, flashbacks, and shocking revelations. Hallucinations blur the lines of reality, and sensual encounters with a past love add fuel to the fire. As the night winds down, all roads lead to the gravediggers' trailer. It is here, amidst the dust and the decay, that all secrets are laid bare, and Moth's fate is sealed. "Zift" thus weaves a compelling tapestry of a man's struggle against fate, set against the backdrop of a city held captive by the iron fist of totalitarianism.
