Your Next Life (2004)

In the tightly-weaved pastoral tapestry of Cantabria's Pas Valley, the death of a cantankerous dairy farmer over a dispute concerning a prize milk cow's calf, leaves ripples that threaten the tranquility of the community. The fear of arrest looms over another farmer and his daughter, Val, who stealthily conspire to shroud the cause of death in silence. However, the stillness of their secrecy is disrupted when Val finds herself irresistibly drawn towards Rai, the city-based hairdresser and disillusioned son of the deceased farmer. This unexpected attraction stirs up long-buried family grudges, and ignites the wild imagination of Val's adolescent sister, Genia. Guided by the Pasiegos' aphorism, "What goes unsaid, gets undone," the characters navigate through the repercussions of their silence. But does this silence truly protect them, or does it merely serve as a veneer for more menacing harm? The suspense of the narrative unravels this intriguing paradox.
