Plot

In the heart of World War II, amidst the ruthless Japanese invasion of Burma, Captain Alan Langford (Stanley Baker) and his weary British troops find themselves stranded in uncharted territory. Cut off from their brigade by the swift and merciless advance of their enemy, they are forced to seek refuge in a jungle village seized by their own desperate measures. Haunted by the specter of defeat, Captain Langford makes a controversial decision, ordering the stoic Sergeant McKenzie (Gordon Jackson) to execute two innocent villagers. This brutal act is done in an effort to break a Japanese informer, causing discord among the ranks. War correspondent Max Anderson (Leo McKern), a witness to the unfolding turmoil, and an elderly padre (Guy Rolfe) voice their protests, their pleas echoing amidst the tumultuous backdrop of war. The tides of conflict take a cruel turn when the Japanese recapture the village. Their commander, having observed Langford's ruthless tactics, mirrors his brutal strategy in a chilling attempt to extract information from the British. Yesterday's Enemy is a gripping exploration of the thin line separating heroes from villains, and the moral ambiguities of war, forcing the viewer to question: how far would you go when survival is the only victory left?
