White Nights (1985)

In the icy heart of Siberia, a plane crash catapults a prodigious Russian dancer, who once defected to the West, back into the clutches of the Soviet Union. As the relentless K.G.B. watch dogs his every move, they wield the allure of dancing for the illustrious Kirov Academy of Ballet as a means to bring him back into the fold. However, the dancer's spirit remains unbroken, his dreams of freedom unextinguished. His salvation comes in the unlikely form of a black American expatriate, a man whose life has been woven into the Soviet tapestry through his Russian wife, who carries their unborn child. While the dancer's captors envision him pirouetting once more on the Kirov stage, he conjures a daring plan of escape, planning to seek refuge within the stoic walls of the American Embassy. However, as he prepares to leap beyond the iron curtain, doubt seeps in like a chill Siberian wind. In this world of shadows and subterfuge, can he truly place his faith in the American and his Russian family? White Nights is a thrilling ballet of trust and deceit, a dance where one misstep could mean a fatal fall.
