Midnight Express (1978)

In 1970, a young American named Billy Hayes made the unfortunate decision to smuggle hashish out of Istanbul. He is caught and told to work with the authorities but chooses to try and escape. He doesn't get away and faces a four-year sentence in one of the worst prisons in the world. After four years of horrific abuse in prison, Billy discovers his case received a prosecutorial review, and he will now serve 30 years for the crime. Abandoned by his government, Billy dreams of the "Midnight Express," an escape plan.
