White Lies (2013)

White Lies unfolds a tale of identity - its denial, protection, and the inherent struggle of preserving it. Our narrative revolves around Paraiti (Whirimako Black), a revered medicine woman, a guardian of life, who serves as the healer and midwife for her remote, tribal community. However, new laws threaten her existence, forbidding unlicensed healers like her. During a rare sojourn into the city, she encounters Maraea (Rachel House), a servant to the affluent Rebecca (Antonia Prebble). Maraea seeks Paraiti's wisdom and help to veil a secret that has the power to shatter Rebecca's standing within the European settler society. The revelation of this secret could cost a life, yet concealing it could yield equally deadly outcomes. Caught in a tumultuous storm of deception, Paraiti, Maraea, and Rebecca are thrust into a confrontation of their core beliefs.
