Plot

In the turbulent 1920s, the charismatic Franklin D. Roosevelt (Sir Kenneth Branagh) is on the cusp of a promising political career. However, the cruel hand of fate intervenes, and Roosevelt is stricken by polio - a debilitating disease that threatens to derail his political ambitions and rob him of his mobility. Undeterred by the grim prognosis, Roosevelt embarks on a desperate quest for a cure. His journey leads him to the forgotten spa of Warm Springs, Georgia, seemingly a place of hope amidst despair. Yet, the once-promising spa stands dilapidated, its glory a distant memory. Instead of succumbing to disappointment, Roosevelt's resilient spirit spurs him to invest in the spa's restoration, transforming it into a sanctuary for recovery. As he grapples with his new reality, Roosevelt finds solace in the unwavering support of his wife and the expertise of his dedicated physical therapist. Together, they navigate the arduous path of rehabilitation, battling against the odds in a bid to reclaim his life from the clutches of polio. "Warm Springs" paints a vivid portrait of Roosevelt's pre-Presidency days, from his diagnosis of polio following his unsuccessful run as Presidential nominee James Cox's running mate, to his instrumental role in the nomination of Al Smith as the Democratic Presidential candidate in 1928. It is a tale of resilience and determination, a testament to the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity.
