Wake of Death (2004)

In the pulsating heart of Los Angeles, former Marseille gangster and current club owner, Ben Archer, yearns for an escape from his criminal past. With a fervent desire to lead a peaceful life with his loving wife Cynthia and their son Nicholas, Ben bids farewell to his dangerous job under the aegis of his wheelchair-bound boss and longtime friend, Max. However, the tranquil life he envisages is far from his grasp. Cynthia, a dedicated social worker for the INS, is engrossed in her mission to obstruct the illicit influx of Chinese immigrants into the USA. In the maelstrom of a late-night raid on a shipping vessel, she stumbles upon Kim, a distraught 14-year-old girl. Moved by the girl's plight, Cynthia brings Kim into her home, oblivious of the swirling vortex of danger that trails the young girl. Kim's father, Sun Quan, a notorious Chinese Triad leader, is a man obsessed. His ruthless quest to find his daughter eclipses everything, even his underhand dealings with the unscrupulous INS agent, Mac Hoggins, in a nefarious heroin smuggling operation. When Hoggins reveals Kim's whereabouts to Sun Quan, a chilling domino effect of violence is set in motion. In a horrific turn of events, Cynthia, along with her Chinese foster parents, Tommy and Mamma Li, are brutally slain in their own restaurant by Sun Quan's henchmen. Only Kim and Nicholas, hidden in another room, manage to escape the massacre, fleeing to the relative safety of Max's home. Upon discovering the carnage, an inconsolable and furious Ben vows to avenge the cold-blooded murders. With Max and his associates, Tony and Raymond, at his side, Ben embarks on a perilous mission to unravel the truth. A downtown brothel, a confession wrung out of Hoggins through torturous means, and a deadly confrontation with Sun Quan's partner Andy, propel Ben further into the vortex of violence and betrayal. As the body count rises, Sun Quan retaliates by kidnapping Kim and Nicholas, leading to a desperate rescue operation by Ben. But with Nicholas still held captive by the merciless Triad leader, Ben's mission is far from over. Driven by an indomitable will to save his son, Ben leaves a wake of death in his path, heading towards a harrowing showdown with Sun Quan.
