Plot

In the lavish court of King Louis XV of France, the tale of the brilliant yet audacious writer and philosopher, Voltaire, unfolds. While his loyalty to the monarch remains steadfast, Voltaire's pen doesn't shy away from painting a stark picture of the king's disregard for the rights and welfare of his subjects. Despite the king's admiration for Voltaire, he finds himself swayed against the philosopher by his conniving minister, the Count de Sarnac. The enigmatic Madame de Pompadour, Louis' mistress and a fervent advocate for Voltaire, often shields him from the king's wrath. However, even her influence begins to falter when Voltaire bravely condemns Louis for his unjust execution of a commoner, Calas. In a bold act of defiance, Voltaire offers sanctuary to Calas's grieving daughter, striving to expose the king's misguided judgement. But the path to justice is a perilous one, as the scheming Count de Sarnac, harboring his own deceitful intentions, plots to silence the troublesome Voltaire. As the intrigue intensifies, the royal palace becomes a battleground for loyalty, truth, and the fight for justice.
