This animated biography of Jiro Horikoshi recognizes the complex personality of the man who created the fighter planes that Japan used during World War II. Jiro's passion for aeronautics is rooted in the aesthetics and science of it, as well as his inability to serve as a pilot. As the world and the nation suffer trauma after trauma, Horikoshi becomes one of the most acclaimed airplane designers in the world. When he discovers during the war exactly what his planes are being used for, he's aghast. He'll spend his life struggling with his responsibility for the destruction his creations wrought.
