In the high-strung world of symphonies, maestro Sir Alfred De Carter (Sir Rex Harrison) passionately wields his baton, not only to orchestrate music but also the rhythm of his tumultuous personal life. Madly smitten by his enchanting wife, Daphne (Linda Darnell), he is suddenly jolted by a private detective's report, suggesting a clandestine affair between Daphne and his dashing young secretary, Tony (Kurt Krueger).
