In the heart of the festive season, esteemed New York neuroscientist Dr. Sharon Harper, finds herself journeying back to her quaint hometown of Pine Springs. Reconnecting with her roots and her expectant cousin Lucy, Sharon's return is her first since the loss of her grandmother Vera, who had been her pillar of support and upbringing. On her arrival, Sharon learns from Vera's neighbour and estate lawyer, Sam Taylor, that she has inherited her childhood home, along with a peculiar request from Vera. Enclosed in a journal are twelve cherished family Christmas traditions that Sharon must fulfil before deciding whether to embrace her past and move back, or to let go and sell the house.
Sharon is at a crossroads, her return to Pine Springs clashing with her pursuit of the esteemed MacAdam's Fellowship in New York. The fellowship interview, worth half a million dollars, is set for New Year's Eve. To honour her grandmother's wish, Sharon merges her favourite Christmas ritual with the twelve tasks - hanging each of the twelve days of Christmas ornaments on a display stand upon completion of each task. However, she finds herself two turtle doves short.
Assisting Sharon in this heartfelt quest are Sam's ten-year-old daughter Mikayla and Sam himself. In the process, Sharon helps Mikayla navigate her first Christmas without her mother, Jenny. As the season unfolds, Sharon finds herself torn between the magnetic pull of Sam and Mikayla's growing bond and the life she has painstakingly built in New York. Sam, on the other hand, is wary of nurturing a relationship with Sharon, fearing it may not withstand the test of time.
Amidst the yuletide cheer and familial warmth, Sharon embarks on a search for the missing heirloom, the two turtle doves ornament, which to her symbolizes love. As the countdown to the fellowship interview nears, Sharon's journey intertwines with unexpected discoveries and miracles, painting a poignant picture of love, loss, and the true essence of Christmas. Whether or not she uncovers the two turtle doves could very well determine her future, ultimately echoing the powerful question - can she let her past shape her future?
