In the bleak yet resilient world of a Kurdish refugee camp nestled on the tense Iraqi-Turkish border, a tenacious boy known as Satellite emerges as the unlikely leader of the camp's children. With a blend of grit and cunning, Satellite directs his youthful cohorts in the perilous task of retrieving and selling undetonated American mines from the surrounding war-torn fields, an endeavor as dangerous as it is necessary for their survival. In addition to this, Satellite serves as the camp's technological bridge to the outside world, installing antennas to keep the villagers connected and informed. The impending American invasion looms over the camp like an ominous cloud, and Satellite, with his limited English skills, becomes the camp's reluctant interpreter of the news broadcast on Fox News. His world, however, is turned upside down when he meets the enigmatic Agrin, a traumatized orphan from Halabcheh, and her armless brother Hengov. Agrin, haunted by a past marred by unspeakable horrors, and Hengov, who developed an uncanny ability to predict the future after losing his arms in a mine explosion, arrive at the camp with their blind toddler brother Riga. Satellite is instantly smitten with Agrin, but his affection remains unreciprocated, her heart trapped in the shadows of her traumatic past. Agrin yearns to escape, to leave behind Riga and journey with Hengov to a new beginning, but her brother doesn’t share her vision. The tension rises as Satellite grapples with his unrequited love, Agrin wrestles with her past, and Hengov confronts an uncertain future. In this haunting narrative, we explore the resilience of the human spirit amidst the harsh realities of war.
