Bruno is a young boy when his father takes a new job in the European countryside. To Bruno's confusion, his new home is surrounded by barbed wire and uniformed soldiers, and the workers on the family's farm all wear striped pajamas. Bruno explores his new surroundings and makes a friend, Shmuel, who's equally perplexed by the strange happenings. When Bruno's family says hateful things about Shmuel, Bruno's torn between the parents he's always loved and his wonderful new friend who tells great stories and wears striped pajamas.
