Plot

Tommy Cooper, Britain's beloved comedian, is as renowned for his clumsy stage persona and cunning magic tricks gone awry, as he is for the iconic fez perched on his head. Yet, beyond the laughter and applause, lies a man battling the demons of loneliness and alcoholism. His wife, Gwen, affectionately known as Dove, is both the mother of his children and his steadfast companion on the road. However, as she begins to crave a settled home life, Tommy, terrified of solitude, invites Mary Kay, the wife of his stage manager, to accompany him on his tours. The dichotomy of Tommy's life is portrayed through the two women who share his heart; Dove, worried about his health and late-night escapades, urges him to retire, while Mary, seeing a potential muse for her husband's writing ambitions in Tommy, encourages his indulgences. Amidst this complex web of relationships, Tommy declares his love for Mary while maintaining his tempestuous marriage to Dove, leading to volatile domestic situations. Miff, Tommy's brutally honest agent, observes the unravelling drama with biting sarcasm, unafraid to voice his opinion about Tommy's reckless lifestyle. The plot takes a poignant turn as Tommy sustains both relationships till his untimely death on stage in 1984, a testament to the complex duality of his life. The film, "Tommy Cooper: Not Like That, Like This", presents an intimate exploration of the man behind the fez, a man caught in a tangle of love, loneliness, and the relentless pursuit of laughter.
