Plot

In the quaint seaside town where the ripples of the ocean echo the tranquility of life, young Frédérique, a diligent worker in a trout farm, begins to navigate the intricate web of human relationships. Her world entwines with Galuchat, a man concealing his true sexuality beneath a facade of marriage. Together, they concoct a clever ruse, ensnaring the elite businessmen Rambert and Saint-Genis in a bowling game, their feigned incompetence leading to a surprising victory. Amidst the whirlwind of deception, Frédérique finds herself drawn into a clandestine love affair with Saint-Genis, who invites her to accompany him on a business trip to the vibrant, bustling heart of Japan. As she ventures into the arms of another man, far from her small-town trout farm, Frédérique grapples with a growing turmoil within her. Her journey in Japan becomes an introspective quest, forcing her to confront her innermost self and the consequences of her actions. But, when news of Galuchat's hospitalization reaches her, she is pulled back to the reality she left behind, back to the town that smells of salt and trout. Her return, however, is marred by Rambert's relentless pursuit, his desires threatening to shatter the fragile peace she has found. As he attempts to persuade Frédérique to be his lover, the stage is set for a climax teetering on the brink of tragedy. "The Trout" is an intricate dance of love, deceit, and self-discovery, where every decision carries a weight that could tip the scales towards heartbreak or redemption.
