Plot

In the heart of a quaint Connecticut town, esteemed professor Charles Rankin is on the brink of marital bliss with the daughter of a U.S. Supreme Court justice. Yet, behind the facade of his respectable identity, lies a dark past that reeks of evil deeds. Formerly known as Franz Kindler, he masterminded the Holocaust and later sought refuge in the tranquil anonymity of Harper, Connecticut, under a new name. However, the arrival of an earnest convert to Christianity, a former comrade from his Nazi days, threatens to expose Rankin's true identity. Determined to protect his carefully crafted life, Rankin silences his old associate, burying his secrets deep within the forest floor. But Rankin's past refuses to remain buried. Wilson, a relentless investigator from the War Crimes Commission, begins to shadow Rankin's every move, his pursuit ignited by the mysterious murder of Rankin's old comrade. With the noose of justice slowly tightening, Rankin finds himself needing the unlikely aid of his unsuspecting wife to evade capture. As the tension mounts, a curious obsession seizes Rankin's attention - the local antique clock tower. This fascination weaves a ticking countdown into the narrative, as Rankin navigates the treacherous waters of his past closing in on his present. The clock tower, with its rhythmic ticking, becomes a haunting reminder of time running out, potentially leading to the unraveling of his carefully constructed persona. From the quiet streets of Connecticut to the echo of the clock tower, "The Stranger" is a tense exploration of hidden identity, past sins, and the relentless pursuit of justice.
