Plot

In the heart of a French dockyard, a principled trade unionist, Michel, orchestrates his own inclusion in the dockworkers' random downsizing list, intending to shield a comrade from the blow of unemployment. While his severance package and the magnanimity of friends and family offer a cushion to his sacrifice, it also inadvertently invites a home invasion, leaving him and his loved ones stripped of their possessions. By a twist of fate, Michel uncovers the identity of one of the invaders--a young dockworker from the same downsizing list. Successfully having him apprehended, Michel and his wife experience a hollow victory, tainted by their understanding of the young man's desperate motives and the ripple effect of their vengeance. Juggling with their moral compass, Michel and his wife independently grapple with their beliefs and ideals, seeking a broader interpretation of justice. This exploration leads them on a path of self-discovery, where they learn that the pursuit of retribution can sometimes blur the lines between right and wrong, challenging their perception of fairness and equality.
