The Skin of the Wolf (2018)

In the late 19th century, atop a desolate mountain peak, resides Martinón – a man of grit and scarce words. He is the solitary soul in a deserted town, where his days are consumed by maintaining his dwelling and hunting the wilderness's denizens, including deer and wolves. His only link to the outside world is his fleeting visits to the nearest town, where he trades the skins of his prey. On one such visit, his friend Severino plants the seed of the idea of companionship and family in his mind. Swayed by the suggestion, Martinón strikes a deal with Ubaldo, acquiring one of his daughters, Pascuala, to share his austere mountain life. As Pascuala struggles to acclimate to the harsh, frigid surroundings, Martinón remains relentless in his pursuit of new game. However, tragedy strikes when Pascuala's health declines and she perishes, leaving Martinón to confront the reality that the child she bore belonged to another man. Enraged by the betrayal, Martinón storms back to the town, demanding Ubaldo to reimburse the money and the traded skins. Unable to meet Martinón's demands, Ubaldo offers his youngest daughter, Adela, in marriage. Martinón accepts and brings Adela to his secluded mountain home. Yet, the harsh isolation and Martinón's stern demeanor stir deep resentment and suffering within Adela, fueling her desire for escape and a life far away from the stone-hearted Martinón.
