Plot

In the somber economic aftermath of World War II Britain, three Navy comrades find themselves lured into the murky underbelly of smuggling. Their journey begins harmlessly enough, trafficking benign commodities like wine, items that have become scarce treasures in the English black market. Yet, it is the insatiable greed and hubris of George Hoskins, one of the trio, that leads them down darker paths. Their descent into criminality deepens when they cross paths with the sinister Major Fordyce, a man who deals in goods far more dangerous than wine — counterfeit money and deadly automatic weapons. Bill Randall, skipper of the vessel 1087, initially manages to suppress his moral qualms, treating their actions with a willful ignorance. However, a horrifying revelation forces him to confront the grim reality of their deeds. When they smuggle a man across the channel who turns out to be a child murderer with nefarious inclinations, Bill's conscience finally awakens. Alongside Birdie, the ship's mechanic, he is thrust into a moral dilemma that tests the limits of their loyalty and courage. Their battle against moral corruption, guilt, and the looming shadow of their actions forms the crux of the narrative, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats, questioning - how far is too far?
