The Crimson Rivers (2000)

Two cops from very opposite corners of life end up on the trail of the same killer. Pierre Niemans is a well-educated detective asked to investigate the odd murder of a college professor, while Inspector Max Kerkerian is a loner who's meticulous but frequently gets lost in his work. The two come to work together as they discover that their cases intertwine, but they only slowly fathom how deep the rabbit hole goes. Their investigation will lead them to skinheads, secret rituals, and a brutal killer who's been taking advantage of the local college's cutthroat society of academics and administrators.
