Plot

Paul Lawrence, a humble shirt salesman at a Sydney retail store, finds his ordinary life dramatically transformed as he juggles love, ambition, and newfound relationships. When his girlfriend Cara departs for London, Paul's world intertwines with the Sydney art society, known as 'the set', under the guidance of esteemed designer Marie Rosefield. Thrust into a world of creativity and high society, Paul is commissioned by the enigmatic artist Mark Broniski to design an avant-garde set for renowned British stage director, John L. Fredericks. Here, he crosses paths with Tony Brown, a fellow art student who is romantically entangled with Paul's cousin, Kim Sylvester. As an unexpected romance blooms between Paul and Tony, a separate clandestine affair unfolds between Kim's mother Peggy and Broniski. The film 'The Set' is a vibrant tapestry of passion, artistry, and societal norms woven against the backdrop of 1970's Sydney. It explores the tantalizing complexity of human relationships, the thrill of ambition, and the allure of the art world.
