The Sad Sack (1957)

Meet Private Meredith Bixby, a soldier so hilariously inept that his six-week basic training schedule has ballooned into a 17-month ordeal. When his bumbling nature results in the loss of a military tank, the Army assigns WAC Major Shelton, a sharp psychologist, to mould him into a worthy soldier. Enlisting the help of Corporal Dolan and Private Stan Wensalawsky, she hopes to reverse Bixby's fortune. However, Dolan and Stan, each harboring grudges against Bixby, guide him into further calamities, prompting Sergeant Pulley to dispatch them all to Morocco. In North Africa, an innocent night out goes awry when Bixby, under the influence of Moroccan Delights, which he mistakes for malted milk, becomes besotted by the enchanting dancer-singer, Zita. Dolan, in an attempt to safeguard Bixby, spins a web of deceit about Zita, plunging Bixby into a pit of despair so deep that he enlists in the Suicide Division of the Foreign Legion. The plot thickens when Bixby is kidnapped by a group of Arabian schemers who force him to assemble a stolen American cannon, under the watchful eye of the trigger-happy Abdul. Upon learning of his predicament, Zita convinces Dolan and Stan to join her in a daring rescue mission. The Sad Sack is a whirl of mishaps, misunderstandings, and misadventures, promising to keep you engaged and laughing till the very end.
