The Notebook (2013)

In the shadow of World War II, with the Nazis sweeping through Hungary, a desperate woman makes the heartrending decision to leave her thirteen-year-old twins at their grandmother's rural home, far from the chaos of the ravaged cities. The twins are alien to their grandmother, a severe, avaricious old woman who begrudgingly gives them shelter but little else. Marooned in this unfamiliar territory, the boys are compelled to adapt to the harsh realities of hunger, frigid weather, and the omnipresent inhumanity that scars their once peaceful homeland. As their world crumbles, the twins find themselves discarding the moral compass they once held, instead choosing to learn from the malevolent forces that surround them in a desperate bid for survival. They meticulously document their observations and the wisdom they garner in a notebook, their objective record a testament to their resilience amidst the wreckage.
