The Moonlighter (1953)

As dawn breaks over the early 1900s, Wes Anderson finds himself caught in the relentless grip of the law, accused of moonlit cattle theft. Once a beloved fixture of his hometown, Wes left five long years ago, leaving his love, Rela, caught in the throes of waiting. In his absence, Wes' brother Tom, a respectable bank teller in Rio Hondo, has been nurturing his own affection for Rela, urging her to abandon her loyalty to Wes and join him in wedlock. Incarcerated in the sheriff's jail, Wes' fate hangs in the balance as he awaits a trial that promises to uphold justice. But outside the jail, a seething lynch mob of local ranchers, thirsty for retribution, brandishes a hangman's noose and screams for Wes' demise. A case of mistaken identity results in the lynching of an innocent hobo, leading the mob to believe they've achieved their goal. However, Wes remains unscathed behind the bars. Once he breaks free, Wes, fueled by a burning vengeance, embarks on a brutal campaign against the mob. He descends upon their ranches like a relentless storm, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Injured during one of his vengeful raids, Wes finds solace at his mother's home, where old wounds are healed and old bonds rekindled. He encounters Rela, his heart still aflame with love for her, but she rejects his advances, seemingly drawn towards the stability that Tom offers. When Tom loses his job, Wes cunningly tempts him into a bank robbery plot, a chance for Tom to secure the funds needed to win Rela's hand in marriage. Their trio is completed by the outlaw, Cole Gardner. Their plan, however, veers off course, leading them into a treacherous mountain hideout and a web of betrayal. Hot on their trails is the sheriff's posse, with an unexpected addition - Rela, who promises to restore justice. As the final showdown looms, the question remains: Will love or justice be the ultimate victor?
