Plot

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Los Angeles, Marianna (Dame Julie Andrews), a dedicated therapist, finds herself entwined in the colorful narrative of David Fowler (Burt Reynolds), an accomplished middle-aged sculptor grappling with a sudden, perplexing impotence. This affliction extends beyond his bedroom and seeps into his art—a shocking development for a man whose life has revolved around his profound love and adoration for women. David's sessions with Marianna unfold like a tapestry of his past and present relations with women, each strand representing a different woman who has touched his life. From the memory of his single mother, a woman who knew the art of love and its many suitors, to his first experience with love in the arms of a prostitute, an encounter that shaped his respectful perspective towards women in the profession. His love life is a kaleidoscope of fleeting relationships, driven by an insatiable fear of missing something unique in the women he has yet to meet. Among these women are a captivating TV personality, Courtney Wade (Cynthia Sikes), who woos him with her culinary skills; Agnes Chapman (Marilu Henner), a woman whose legs are a spectacle in David's eyes, despite a humorous case of mistaken identity; the daring Louise Carr (Kim Basinger), a client's wife whose scandalous rendezvous with David are marked by thrill and cunning time management; and Nancy (Jennifer Edwards), David's assistant, the only woman who has managed to evade his romantic conquests due to her vulnerable state when they met. As David's story unravels, Marianna finds herself caught in his magnetic pull, joining the ranks of women who, despite understanding their transitory role in his life, find themselves smitten by his charm. However, amidst this carousel of women, one individual might hold the power to make David truly fall in love, enough to consider the unfamiliar territory of commitment. "The Man Who Loved Women" is the intriguing tale of a chronic womanizer seeking therapy to cure his obsession, only to find that his romantic escapades might hold the key to his redemption.
