When Daniel Murphy, a New Yorker, finds himself on a flight back to his homeland, Ireland, en route to his mother's funeral, his journey takes an unexpected detour. An elderly passenger, Padraig Murphy, passes away in the seat next to him and in an unforeseen twist, names Daniel as his next of kin. Saddled with the remains of a stranger, Daniel finds himself at the heart of a peculiar adventure that stretches across the length of Ireland, from Cork to Rathlin Island. His mission - to lay Padraig to rest beside his brother, encapsulated in an eco-friendly cardboard coffin. Persuading his autistic brother Louis to accompany him back to New York becomes a secondary quest for Daniel.
