Plot

In the bleak aftermath of the First World War, four pilots - Cary, Shep, Bill, and Francis - find themselves teetering on the precipice of life and death. Having narrowly escaped the clutches of the war, they remain adrift in the chaos of post-war Europe, their souls tarnished and hearts numbed by the atrocities they've witnessed. As they drown their sorrows in drink and frivolity, their futures hang in uncertainty, each man haunted by a profound sense of loss and inner desolation. Into their world of gloom and despair, breezes in Nikki, a vibrant and enchanting young woman, radiating a zest for life that the pilots have long forgotten. Nurturing no romantic intentions, they welcome Nikki into their fold as a beacon of hope and vitality, a symbol of the life they yearn to reclaim. As Nikki strives to breathe new life into her damaged friends, their misadventures take on a deceptive air of merriment. Yet beneath the veneer of their jovial antics, the grim shadow of war looms ominously, a stark reminder of the past they can never escape.
